Test Accommodations Guide
ETS decides which accommodations it approves and what documentation it needs. This page keeps to the timelines and the extra time ETS publishes for ParaPathways (5757), the exam that replaced the ParaPro, and sends you to ETS for the rest.
Key Points
What ETS publishes in its Information Bulletin for the 2026-27 testing year
Apply Early
ETS says its documentation review for disability accommodations may take approximately four to six weeks. Start the request before you book your test date.
ETS Sets the Documentation Rules
ETS publishes what documentation it accepts and who may provide it. Follow its current guidelines, not a summary on a third-party site.
Extra Time if English Is Not Your Primary Language
Test takers who meet ETS requirements are allowed 50 percent additional testing time.
Ask ETS About Anything Else
Which accommodations exist, how long an approval lasts, how to appeal a decision and how to contact the disability team are all ETS's to answer. Use the ETS disability page below.
If Your Primary Language Is Not English
ParaPathways is administered in English only. ETS may allow extended testing time for test takers whose primary language is not English: those who meet ETS requirements are allowed 50 percent additional testing time.
The request needs three forms from ETS: a Certification of Documentation form, an Eligibility Form and a Registration Form. They must be received at ETS at least 3 weeks before the test date, so start well before you pick a date.
How to Request Disability Accommodations
-
1. Read the ETS guidelines
Start at www.ets.org/disabilities. ETS lists there what it accepts as documentation and how to apply.
-
2. Gather your documentation
Collect what ETS asks for, and keep copies for your records.
-
3. Submit the request and wait for ETS's decision
ETS may ask for more information. Plan for the review to take approximately four to six weeks.
-
4. Register for the test
Once ETS has decided, book your date. See the registration guide for how booking works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request accommodations after I have registered?
Start the request before you book, because the review takes time. If you have already booked, contact ETS through its disability page and ask what that does to your date.
What if I need an accommodation that is not on ETS's list?
Ask ETS. It decides each request, and its disability page explains how to describe your needs.
What if my request is denied?
ETS explains its decision and any way to ask for a review. Follow its instructions and its deadlines.
Every ETS fact on this site is listed with its source on the official facts page.
