ParaPro Math Practice

Build confidence with complete math preparation materials and practice questions

Start Math Practice Test

Math Section Overview

Mathematics was one of the three subject areas of the retired ParaPro Assessment. On ParaPathways it is its own subtest of 36 questions in 60 minutes, with an on-screen calculator provided. Either way you want strong mental math skills and a solid understanding of fundamental concepts.

On ParaPathways, a calculator is provided

The Mathematics subtest (5759) has an on-screen four-function calculator; you do not bring your own.

Key Math Topics

Number Sense & Operations

Master whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages

Multi-digit arithmetic Fraction operations Decimal/percent conversion Order of operations

Algebra & Functions

Solve equations and understand variables and patterns

One & two-step equations Variable expressions Inequalities Number patterns

Geometry & Measurement

Calculate area, perimeter, volume, and unit conversions

Area formulas Perimeter calculations Volume concepts Unit conversions

Data & Probability

Interpret graphs, calculate averages, and understand probability

Graph interpretation Mean, median, mode Data trends Basic probability

Effective Study Strategies

Success requires consistent practice and strategic preparation. A calculator is provided on the ParaPathways Mathematics subtest, but it will not choose the operation for you, so keep strengthening your math skills.

Practice Mental Math Daily

Start with simple calculations and gradually increase difficulty

Memorize Key Formulas

Know area, perimeter, and percentage formulas by heart

Time Your Practice

Build speed and accuracy under test conditions

Understand, Don't Memorize

Focus on concepts so you can adapt to any problem

Review Your Mistakes

Analyze errors to identify and fill knowledge gaps

⚠️

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many test-takers lose points due to careless errors rather than lack of knowledge. Be aware of these common pitfalls:

✕ Not reading questions carefully - watch for "except" or "not"
✕ Rushing through calculations without double-checking
✕ Forgetting order of operations (PEMDAS)
✕ Not checking if your answer makes sense in context

Frequently Asked Questions

1
Can I use a calculator on the ParaPro math section?

The ParaPro is no longer offered. On its replacement, ParaPathways, yes: the Mathematics subtest (5759) provides an on-screen four-function calculator built into the testing platform, though you cannot bring your own. A four-function calculator will not do the reasoning for you, so knowing what to calculate still matters more than the arithmetic.

2
What math formulas should I memorize for the ParaPro test?

Key formulas include: area of rectangles (l×w), triangles (½×b×h), and circles (πr²); perimeter formulas; percentage calculations (part/whole × 100); and the Pythagorean theorem (a²+b²=c²). Also memorize common fraction-decimal-percentage equivalents.

3
What math is on the ParaPathways Mathematics subtest?

The subtest has 36 questions in two content areas of 18 each: Numbers & Operations, and Geometry, Measurement & Data. The questions are framed around helping students in the classroom. The official ETS Study Companion lists every skill covered.

4
What if I haven't done math in years?

Many successful test-takers return to math after years away. Start with basic arithmetic review and gradually work up to more complex topics. Online resources, practice tests, and study guides can help refresh your skills. How long to study depends on where you start. Take a timed practice test first and plan your time around the subtest you score lower on.
